Asia smartphones market is likely to double in the following 5 years

Asia’s smartphone market is likely to double its size as of 2016 to attain 200 million shipments, where Android will come forth as the prevailing platform as it “dramatically” surpasses Apple’s iOS and Microsoft’s Windows Phone 7, according to a new written report.

Market research firm Ovum said in a proclamation Thursday that global smartphone sales will reach 653 shipments that exact year, of which Asia will account for 30 percent.

Principal analyst, Adam Leach, mentioned in the report that the smartphone market will see substantial growth over the following five years, “once again outperforming the wider mobile phone market”.

According to Ovum, smartphones in the Asia-Pacific develops at a compound annual growth rate of 12.5 percent between 2009 and 2016, and ultimately account for 32 percent of the region’s overall mobile phone market.
