Future iPhones could begin to sport displays that take advantage of curved screen technology, a recent report from Bloomberg indicates. As implied by the news publication’s industry sources, Apple will be releasing a 4.7 inch and 5.5 inch iPhone as early as 3Q14, and each are expected to sport an amazing display with “glass that curves downward around the edges.”
The sources added that a later series of iPhone models will begin to utilize advanced touch screen sensors capable of reading pressure effectively, but emphasized that these would not be implemented until a much later period.
Bloomberg’s suggested sizes—4.7 inch and 5.5 inch— warrant some attention as they fall close to what the Wall Street Journal and KGI Securities’ Ming Chi Kuo had predicted earlier. The 5.5 inch size, in particular, would be especially interesting to see from Apple given the company’s alleged distaste for “phablets” and the fact that such a size would violate Apple’s vision of smartphones as a “one-hand” device.
