Despite being one of the most criticized, joked-about, and hated aspects of iOS since the iPhone 5 came out, Apple Maps is turning out to be quite a surprising hit. A recent set of data released by Comscore suggests that the number of iOS consumers using Apple’s map application has improved to 35 million people during September 2013. In the same period, Google saw its map user base drop by a whopping 40% across all types of mobile devices, including those running on iOS. The severity of the situation was underscored by The Guardian when it revealed that the use of Google Maps on iOS has fallen to merely 6.3 million from 35 million in 2012. That translates to an 80% year-over-year decrease.
