Rumor: Acer to Partner with Chinese Manufacturers on Tablet Production?

10 Feb

Acer may outsource tablet production to Chinese OEMs as a means to reduce the company’s costs, various reports say. According to the accounts of a recent press conference held in Taipei, the Taiwanese company’s senior vice president, Scott Lin, praised Shengzhen’s tablet manufacturers for being able to churn out as many as 80-90 million tablets in 2013, and claimed that all companies should eventually consider “finding tablet solutions in [the city].”

When questioned about whether his company would do the same thing, however, Lin remained elusive.

“It’s not appropriate for us to talk about the issue at this point,” Lin said.
