LGD beats Innolux in 4K display market share in Q4 2014

27 Feb

The output volume of 4K TV panels by Taiwanese leading flat panel maker Innolux Corp. fell behind that of LG Display (LGD) for the first time in the fourth quarter of 2014.

South Korea’s Yonhap News reported on Feb. 26 that according to statistics by market researcher DisplaySearch, LGD shipped 1.86 million units of 4K displays in Q4 2014 and pushed its market share to 27.9 percent, surpassing Innolux on a quarterly basis for the first time. LGD’s 4K display output volume outdid that of Innolux in October 2014 and the South Korean company maintained the lead for the following two months.

In the same quarter, Innolux shipped 1.76 million units of 4K displays, taking second place with 26.3 percent in the market. Samsung Display followed with 19.9 percent.

Meanwhile, in Q4 2014, shipments of LGD’s large-sized flat panels — size 9.1-inch or larger and mostly used in TVs, monitors and laptops — rose 8.4 percent from a quarter earlier to 45.45 million units, taking 23.6 percent of the market. LGD led in this category in market share for the 21st consecutive quarter.

The report said LGD continued to lead in shipment volume in large-sized panels, due mainly to the increased sales of the panels in tablet computers. The report also said LGD’s sales of tablet panels exceeded 1 million units in Q4 2014. LGD is the largest panel supplier of Apple’s tablet products.
