Taiwan-based panel maker AU Optronics Corp. (AUO) has reportedly signed a contract with Apple to supply 4-inch LCD panels for its iPhones, various reports say.
The initial production of the panels, which is expected to utilize low-temperature polysilicon (LTPS) technology, will take place at the company’s L3A and 3B facilities.
The panels are expected to be used primarily in Apple’s “C-series” iPhones, which are slated to be announced in September this year, alongside the next generation iPhones.
The more premium iPhone 6S (or iPhone 7) might also use panels from AUO, according to sources. Based on a report from MoneyDJ.com, the Taiwanese company is already readying samples of its 4.7 inch and 5.5 inch LTPS displays, and will be delivering them to the Cupertino giant for testing.
