【COMPUTEX 2015】Asustek launches selfie-centric handset at Computex

Asustek Computer Inc. launched its first handset specialized for taking self-portraits at Computex Monday.

The 13-megapixel rear and front-facing cameras are the main hardware items of interest in the ZenFone Selfie, which is otherwise very similar to Asus’s flagship handset, the ZenFone 2. The rear camera is outfitted with a laser autofocus unit similar to the one on LG’s G4 and G3. The front camera, meanwhile, has a dual-tone flash, and a panorama mode that captures group selfies at angles of up to 140 degrees.

Asus is touting the Selfie’s “beautification mode,” which digitally enhances the appearance of people. “It makes my skin tone look more even, the lines softer—it’s like wearing digital makeup,” said Asus design director Jen Chuang during the introduction of the new smartphone.

“It’s like having a personal spotlight,” Chuang added.

The tagline for the ZenFone Selfie is “Snap your selfie, view your beauty.”

Asus’s newest addition to the ZenFone lineup device also features a “selfie button” which allows users to click the front-facing camera’s shutter conveniently.

The ZenFone Selfie is expected to go on sale in July, according to Taiwan’s Central News Agency.
