Uber, which presents a Credit Card paying option for most of its markets across the globe, had to do away with that payment method in India due to RBI’s stringent 2FA mechanism. However, the over $50 Billion valued ride-hailing company today announced that you can now pay for all of your Uber rides using International and Indian Credit Cards, along with the existing PayTm wallet method.

You simply need to scan your card and voila, your payment will be off!

The service adheres to RBI regulations and according to Uber, there shall be 2 Factor Authentication flow built in to the app. For first time users, you need to enter your Online Banking Pin or One-Time Password before the company can charge the fare to your card. The payments are absolutely secure and encrypted to the highest security standards available so you do not need to worry about anything.

Here’s how you can add credit to call in a Uber ride:

  • Tap the account button in the top left corner
  • Tap Payment
  • Tap Add Payment
  • Fill in your credit card information or tap the “scan your card” option
  • After your trip, you shall see a “Pay Now” button that triggers the 2 Factor Authentication.
  • Type in your OTP or I-Pin and your receipt shall be sent to your registered email address.
  • While we now accept credit cards. We continue to accept PayTM Wallet as a mode of payment.

According to Uber, the service is currently being rolled out for Android users whilst iOS users will get the feature via an update in the coming weeks.

Uber also allows you to use more than one card so if you have multiple cards or want to call in a ride through your buddy’s card, you will have no issues at all, a glitch which frustrated most Uber riders largely because they could sync just one PayTm wallet at a time.

The service will also be a big plus for tourists coming from other uber markets to India, as it wouldn’t be mandatory anymore to get a Paytm wallet first, for an Uber ride here in the subcontinent.

Also, the service accepts almost all major credit cards issued by Mastercard, Visa and American Express, which means you do not need to worry about the fact that your card may not be supported.

The new method has been rolled out almost immediately for Android users, who can update the app to avail Credit Card payment facilities.
