Nokia has confirmed that it will return to the smartphone market in the coming year. Rumors say the new model would be launched in MWC next February. Moreover, the new model may be the low-end smartphone, D1C, whose specification and design has been revealed earlier.

Nokia has confirmed that the brand will return to the smartphone market in 2017 in the 2016 Capital Market Day event held on November 15. The future model will be manufactured by Nokia, Foxconn, and HMD. Nokia has no manufacturing equipment itself; therefore, HMD Global, and Foxconn will help Nokia develop the company’s new models. By the leading of Nokia’s former leader, HMD will be in charge of development, management, and sale of Nokia’s smartphones and accessories. Meanwhile, Foxconn will be in charge of design and manufacturing. In addition, HMD has signed contract with the biggest commercial company in UK, Mother, which will be in charge of the promotion of Nokia’s new models.

Nokia has not released the specific launch time. However, Nokia will set up several show booths at the MWC event in February of next year. Nokia president and CEO, Rajeev Suri, will also make a relevant speech in the conference. According foreign media, HMD will be one of the attending manufacturers, too, and Nokia will launch new smartphone just like before. Therefore, it is pretty certain that HMD will release the first Nokia smartphone or tablet in 2017 MWC.

One of the new Nokia model launched next year could be D1C, which will target the middle range market. D1C will run Android 7.0 and will be available in 5.5-inch touch screen with 1080p resolution. Furthermore, it will be powered by an octa-core 430 Qualcomm processor clocked at 1.4 GHz, have 3GB RAM+16GB ROM storage combination and a 16-megapixel photo snapper on the back, along with an 8-megapixel secondary camera in the front.

According the sources cited by foreign media, the price will only be 99 euro (about RMB 740). From the revealed specification, the selling point may be its high cost performance ratio. However, rumors also said this new model won’t be available in China.
