So Samsung wouldn’t unveil its Galaxy S8 at the ongoing MWC event. Instead, the company took to the dais to announce a Galaxy Book, the Galaxy Tab 3 and an updated Gear VR headset. However, it seems like the company just could not leave such a huge event without ensuring that its upcoming Galaxy S8 flagship smartphone received its fair share of attention.

Samsung has invited folks to an Un-boxing event for what we can only presume is the Galaxy S8, on the 29th of March, 2017. The company has also sent out press invites for the same. The event will be held at 11 AM EST in New York City, at the famed Lincoln Center, and as far as we can tell, will feature the company’s next flagship.

I mean sure, Samsung could be planning to reveal another handset, but considering that we have been talking about S8 all this time and indeed, we were expecting it to be launched today, that is unlikely. There is also the fact that after the Note 7 debacle, Samsung’s next device will have a large role in deciding whether people forget about Note 7 and its explosive failure and move on, or start remembering Samsung as a company that can not do right by smartphones.

Of course, there is a slight chance that the company has another smartphone in the pipeline along with the S8. Either way, the NYC event promises to be exciting in the extreme.

From what we can see of the phone — we can’t exactly see the device, merely its outline — it would seem to be on the larger side with a minimum of bezels. Which further reinforces the belief that the device in question is the Galaxy S8.

Samsung also has the advantage of launching its device earlier than Apple this year, which will push its next iPhone iteration near the end of 2017. Meanwhile, stay tuned for more news from the ongoing Mobile World Congress event in Barcelona.
