Last year, Motorola launched its flagship smartphone Moto Z along with Moto Mods  — an interesting set of modular accessories for your phone. Now, it seems that the company is all set to launch a successor of the Moto Z in the coming months. There have already been numerous sightings.

Although not yet official, a sneak peek of the Moto Z (2017) was available at the recent MWC 2017 when the company was showcasing new Mods. Also, the phone was hinted during Sprint’s Gigabit Class LTE service display.

First spotted by Android Central, the Moto Z (2017) looks a bit different from its predecessor. Apparently, the upcoming device sports a more elongated shape and rounded edges. The device has the latest home button design, replacing the box-shaped fingerprint reader which is currently present on the Moto Z.

The device leaked in the picture also has a GamePad Moto Mod attached, which further confirms that device in the picture is the Moto Z (2017) and not any other. Also, Moto Mods are only compatible with the Moto Z  range, so the picture hints that Motorola might be planning a design change for the upcoming Moto Z (2017).

The upcoming Moto Z (2017) is surely going to fall in the premium category. The phone will come with top-of-line specifications, including Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon 835 processor. The device also looks to be maintaining the slim metal slab design of the original.

The alleged Moto Z (2017) smartphone, showcased during Sprint’s Gigabit LTE service, was encased and covered from the edges. Thus, it was not easy to identify or confirm whether it was in fact, the Moto Z (2017). However, in a press release, the company said:

Motorola showcased the blazing-fast, high-bandwidth capability of a forthcoming flagship smartphone based on the Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 mobile platform with an integrated Snapdragon X16 LTE modem, supporting Gigabit Class LTE.

Last year’s Moto Z featured a 5.5-inch QHD AMOLED display and was powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 SoC coupled with 4 GB of RAM. It came with a 13-megapixel rear camera with optical image stabilization (OIS) and laser autofocus and 5-megapixel front-facing camera with a wide-angle lens and a front flash.
