Molex Vision Center Showcases Connected Building and Workspace Concepts

Molex has announced the opening of the Molex Vision Center on the campus of its corporate headquarters. The Molex Vision Center represents a first initiative in the company’s plan to transform multiple buildings and spaces using connected enterprise concepts. Featuring a transformative workspace design, the Molex Vision Center showcases integrated digital technologies, including the Molex Transcend Network Connected Lighting System and a range of high-performance building materials, fixtures and finishes. As a Cisco Solution Technology Integrator and member of the Cisco Digital Building partner community, Molex equipped the building with a unique digital infrastructure that leverages Cisco network technology and Transcend gateways, sensors, cables and software.

Energy-Efficient Illumination

The digital infrastructure featured throughout the Molex Vision Center is an intelligent, low-voltage Power over Ethernet (PoE) solution that powers and controls LED lighting through the network to enable energy savings through sensor feedback. By adapting to mood, tasks and ambient lighting, the Transcend Network Connected Lighting System creates a personalized experience that supports higher productivity. A wide variety of LED luminaires used throughout the building are sourced from Transcend Alliance companies, a group dedicated to expanding and promoting the use of network-connected lighting.

LED luminaires in the main workspace of the building feature a bio-adaptive functionality that mimics natural daylight by gradually changing from cool temperature, high intensity in the morning to a warmer less intensive light later in the day. This functionality can be tuned to settings that add to the overall experience and satisfaction in the space. Subtle changes in lighting intensity provide a more natural environment designed to foster employee productivity and comfort. Sensors embedded in the lighting collect and feed data to a central host server to report and measure air quality, temperature, occupancy and real-time energy consumption for increased operational efficiency.

Dynamic Workspace Layout

Individual workspaces for all employees in the Molex Vision Center are reduced in size, when compared with traditional cubicles or offices, and each workspace accommodates a height-adjustable desk with the option to sit or stand while working. The workspace design yields 30% space savings to accommodate collaborative areas. Unlike traditional layouts, with managerial offices occupying coveted corner offices or other perimeter spots, collaborative work areas share window access. This kind of layout promotes scalable densification, while opening up prime areas for common use.

Collaborative areas interspersed throughout the building foster a sense of teamwork. In addition to individual work areas, each of seven different “huddle rooms” can comfortably accommodate multiple people working away from their desks. Each huddle room offers a unique setting, including café décor in one, soft seating in another, and a conference table and chairs in several for those preferring a more structured setting.

To accommodate larger group productivity, multiple conference rooms in the Vision Center feature wireless light switches, Wi-Fi and device charging stations, video and teleconferencing. A wireless presentation tool allows easy single-click sharing of laptop or mobile device content on a main screen.
