Announced via an official blog post, LG has today taken the wraps off the specced-up iteration of its flagship smartphone, the LG G6 Plus. This new device, which is being dubbed as LG G6+, now offers you more memory and internal storage. But, that’s not all. Even some of the features on the existing G6 have been upgraded to provide you with an enhanced experience.

The release of an upgraded LG G6 device falls in line with earlier reports, which follows the strategy adopted by its competitors. The Korean giant hurried to launch its smartphone in the market and is now upgrading the same to help it stand a more fighting chance. The Galaxy S8 lineup one-upped its Korean counterpart both in terms of looks and features, except for the camera, where LG G6 has to be the clear winner with its dual-lens setup.

The LG G6 Plus looks identical to the original flagship device, with no increase in the Full Vision display’s size and only brings along internal specification upgrades. This new device is known to feature 6GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage as compared to the 4GB RAM and 64GB internal storage on the LG G6. It is still powered by the old Qualcomm Snapdragon 821 chipset and 3,300mAh battery.

Since LG took such long duration to upgrade the LG G6, we expected the Korean giant to also upgrade the processor to the latest, as well as greatest Qualcomm Snapdragon 835. But, that is not the case here and the company will easily justify the use of the old chip, as it did on stage at the launch event at MWC 2017. It has, however, improved on the audio experience by making full advantage of the 32-bit Hi-Fi Quad DAC featured in the smartphone.

Talking about this launch, Juno Cho, president of LG Electronics Mobile Communications Company in a statement said:

LG’s G series has always been about offering innovation and technology that we believe will appeal to as many customers as possible. By expanding the G6 lineup with differentiating features and colors, consumers will have even more options to consider when shopping for a new smartphone.

While the release of an upgraded LG G6 Plus is one of the significant announcements, the highlight of the release will have to be the upgraded features that are coming to the LG G6 lineup. These include Face Print, Low Power Consumption and Covered Lens, all of which have been described in brief underneath:

  • Face Print: As rumored, the LG G6 is building upon the security features of its device with the inclusion of facial recognition technology. You just need to simply hold up the phone in front of your face, without pressing any buttons, to activate the front camera and unlock the device once your bust is recognized. The average time for the same being less than a second on average.
  • Low Power Consumption: LG is making use of the Hexagon DSP architecture integrated into the Qualcomm Snapdragon mobile platform to improve battery consumption. Its All-Ways Aware hub works in amalgamation with Google’s Contextual Hub Runtime Environment (CHRE) to collect sensor and wireless data, with little or no strain of battery consumption.
  • Covered Lens: The Korean giant has included a wide-angle lens on the LG G6 (and LG G6 Plus), thus, it is not integrating a feature to warn users of unwanted intrusion in front of the camera lens. A notification will be displayed on the display if your finger is inadvertently blocking the lens when you’re about to take a shot.

The Korean hardware giant has further added that it expanding the color range of the LG G6 with the release of an Optical Marine Blue and Optical Terra Gold smartphone. The back panels of these devices have been covered with a lenticular film to provide you with an optical effect.
