Samsung’s New Flagship Handset to Feature AI Functions

According to a company statement, Samsung’s forthcoming flagship smartphone, the Galaxy S8, will be equipped with artificial intelligence service. The Galaxy S8 will let users order food or perform other tasks by asking the device’s virtual assistant without going through a third-party application. The artificial intelligence service will also be featured in Samsung’s other consumer electronics products, such as refrigerators. (more…)

Will Foxconn be Able to Improve Sharp’s Operations?

On Wednesday, Foxconn chairman Terry Gou said the contract electronics manufacturing giant is reducing Sharp’s overseas retail joint ventures in a bid to improve the Japanese company’s operations. Gou said Sharp has too many joint ventures or subsidiaries in foreign markets. He plans to help Sharp directly reach consumers in foreign markets instead of through other retailers. (more…)

More than 1,600 exhibitors Attend Computex

Organizers of Computex Taipei say the 2016 show has attracted more than 1,600 visitors from 30 countries, local media reported Monday. The number of participating countries in Asia’s largest ICT show is the highest since prior to 2011. In terms of volume, the volume of participating countries has grown 36% year-on-year according to Computex organizers: the Taiwan External Trade Development Council and the Taipei Computer Association. 23% of exhibitors are attending Computex for the first time. Mitsubishi Electric, Kyoto Univ. and Tohoku Univ. Succeed in World’s First 3 Tesla MRI with High-Temperature Coils

Mitsubishi Electric Corporation, Kyoto University and Tohoku University announced today the world’s first successful 3 tesla Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) using a small model MRI with high-temperature superconducting coils that do not require cooling with increasingly scarce liquid helium. Mitsubishi Electric expects that the high-quality images made possible at this magnetic field strength will contribute to earlier detection of illnesses. (more…)
