Taiwan Court Rejects Patent-Infringement Charge of Heraeus against Giga Solar

Taiwan’s Intellectual Property Court ruled on July 7 refuting charge of patent infringement by Heraeus, the world’s leading metallization paste supplier, against Giga Solar Materials, Taiwan’s major past supplier. Heraeus is examining the ruling, which involves its Taiwan patent No. 1432539, in order to decide whether to appeal the case. (more…)

Global ASPs of LED Light Bulbs Rose Slightly in June Due to Arrival of Pricier Smart Lighting Products, TrendForce Reports

Prices of LED light bulbs crept up slightly this June with the global ASP of 40-watt equivalent products rising by 1.1% compared with the prior month to US$6.6, according to the latest report from LEDinside, a division of TrendForce. The confirmation of Samsung Display (SDC) being Apple’s AMOLED panel supplier for the upcoming iPhone devices has spurred other smartphone brands and panel makers to aggressively invest in this display technology. The latest display market forecast by WitsView, a division of TrendForce, finds that AMOLED is set to become mainstream in the global smartphone market in the near future with the penetration rate reaching to almost 50% by 2020. LEDvance Positive towards Asian Lighting Market

Early in March, the Chinese investment consortium- with IDG Capital, LED packaging manufacturer MLS CO., LTD. and Yiwu State-Owned Assets Operation Center as the members- completed the acquisition of LEDvance from Osram. Originally a general lighting business unit of Osram, LEDvance, with the support of its new owners, extended its product line from standardized and traditional light sources to advanced LED lamps and intelligent products for smart lighting.

PV Price Trends to Diverge Between China and Other Regions This Third Quarter as the U.S. Decides on Suniva’s Petition, Says TrendForce

The latest PV market analysis by EnergyTrend, a division of TrendForce anticipates falling prices across the supply chain this July, but the overall decline will not be as steep as the one occurred in the same period a year ago. Though the Chinese government will implement a cross-board subsidy reduction at the end of June, some of the country’s PV projects have a temporary reprieve. Furthermore, China’s solar demand is still being supported by installations related to the Top Runner Program and the PV Poverty Alleviation Project.
