LUXEXCEL Set for Growth with €7.5 million series B- round

LUXEXCEL, the first company that is able to 3D print functional lenses, announced a €7.5 million series B funding. The first closure is done and the second closure will be finalized in 3 months’ time. The B-round was led by the Flemish investment company PMV, which included the firm’s existing investors, SET Ventures and Munich Venture Partners. (more…)

【COMPUTEX 2015】 Is 3D printing overhyped or the real thing?

3D printing is evolving rapidly in response to hype, greater visibility and demand. Some technologies are maturing faster than others and will be widely available within a few years. In fact, some are already in general use. But many technologies are still five to 10 years away from mainstream adoption. Consumer adoption will be outpaced by business and medical applications that have more practical applications in the short term. At Computex this year, there was a dedicated area for 3D printing with a total of about 10 booths. (more…)

XYZprinting to show 3D printing, cloud and IoT products at Computex

The 3D printing industry has substantial business opportunities; many research institutes forecast twofold growth in 3D printer shipments every year, as low-cost consumer 3D printers hit the market and the industrial demand increases. Simon Shen, chairman of Taiwanese manufacturer XYZprinting, said earlier this year that the company may take the lead in market share if it meets its target of shipping 100,000 units this year. XYZprinting Inc., the three-dimensional (3D) printing division of Taiwanese electronics conglomerate New Kinpo Group, said Wednesday that China will become one of its top markets next year as it looks to make inroads in the Chinese education sector, Taiwan’s Central News Agency (CNA) reported. Electronica 2014 highlights

The four-day Electronica 2014 event, a major trade fair for electronic components, systems and applications, began Nov. 11 in Munich, Germany. The trade fair attracted exhibitors and visitors from 2,737 companies and 50 countries. Celebrating its 50th anniversary, the trade fair this year has much to offer, with a focus on automobile, embedded systems and lighting. (more…)

Verbatim Australia has announced that it will enter the rapidly growing 3D printing market with their range of ABS and PLA filaments available from next month. Parent company Mitsubishi Chemical is also developing a range of unique filament materials that will incorporate the key strengths of both PLA and ABS, with commercial availability expected in late 2014.
