Alibaba Forms Alliance with Samsung, Louis Vuitton and Others to Combat Counterfeit Goods

Alibaba to Take China’s Intime Retail Private

Alibaba said Tuesday it would team up with the founder of China’s Intime Retail (Group) Co. to take the department-store operator private in a deal worth up to 19.8 billion Hong Kong dollars (US$2.6 billion). Alibaba already has a 28% stake in Intime from a US$692 million investment it made in 2014. Alibaba’s shareholding would increase to about 74% after the deal. (more…)

Alibaba Announces Proposal to Privatize Intime Retail

Alibaba Investment Limited (“Alibaba”), a wholly owned subsidiary of Alibaba Group Holding Limited  (“Alibaba Group”) announced today that Alibaba, together with an entity wholly-owned by Mr. Shen Guo Jun, founder of Intime Retail (Group) Company Limited (“Intime”) (together, the “Joint Offerors”), have requested the board of directors of Intime to put forward to shareholders a proposal to privatize the department store operator by way of a scheme of arrangement. Alibaba Aims to Work with Brands to Battle Counterfeiting

Alibaba said Friday it would establish an advisory board of brands and trade associations in order to safeguard intellectual property. According to a company spokesman, Alibaba will work with representatives from international brands and smaller enterprises in the U.S. and elsewhere to fight counterfeiting. Board members will serve rotating terms and meet for the first time in March. (more…)

Alibaba Sues Shatui.com

Alibaba is suing the Chinese website Shatui.com, which allegedly links merchants with people willing to falsify purchases and write positive comments that can drive sellers up in Alibaba’s rankings. That process is called “brushing.” The suit in Hangzhou is seeking 2.16 million yuan ($310,000).  Shatui.com’s site is no longer online, instead redirecting to an e-commerce website. (more…)

Thailand’s Deputy Prime Minister Somkid Jatusripitak and Alibaba Group’s Executive Chairman Jack Ma today witnessed the signing of a Letter of Intent that will see Thailand and Alibaba cooperate on a range of initiatives to develop e-commerce in the country through providing training to SMEs and individuals, and exploring ways to enhance the country’s logistics capabilities to support Thailand 4.0 and Digital Economy strategies. Alibaba’s YunOS Gaining Popularity in China

Alibaba’s mobile operating system YunOS will have 14% of the Chinese market by the end of the year, making it the second-largest mobile OS in China after Google’s Android, the South China Morning Post reported. Alibaba Looking to Diversify Offerings as Steady Growth Predicted for the Near Future
