BMW Group, Intel and Mobileye Will Have Autonomous Test Vehicles on the Roads by the Second Half of 2017

BMW Group, Intel and Mobileye today announced that a fleet of approximately 40 autonomous BMW vehicles will be on the roads by the second half of 2017, demonstrating the significant advancements made by the three companies towards fully autonomous driving. Revealing this at a podium discussion held during a joint press conference at CES, the companies further explained that the BMW 7 Series will employ cutting-edge Intel and Mobileye technologies during global trials starting in the U.S. and Europe. Uber Decides to Test Its Self-Driving Cars in Arizona

Uber is moving a test of its self-driving cars to Arizona after being handed a regulatory defeat in California. The company says it will begin a test of the self-driving vehicles in early 2017 in Phoenix. Uber is touting the support for its experiment of Arizona Gov. Doug Ducey, a Republican, who had issued a statement telling Uber “California may not want you, but we do.” (more…)

Uber Acknowledges Its Autonomous Cars Have Trouble with Bike Lanes

The past two weeks have been completely full with allegations against the lacking safety of Uber’s self-driving vehicles. They’d been spotted committing a series of traffic violations, ranging from running red lights to failing to yield for pedestrians since the public pilot of their cab service in the streets of San Francisco. Uber Partners with Express Group, Indonesia’s Second Largest Cab Provider

Uber seems to have come to the conclusion that fighting against domestic cab service providers isn’t really the best way to go about expanding its business overseas. After acquiescing to the takeover of Uber China by Didi Kuaidi, the cab aggregator has now signed a deal with Express Group, that will let the latter’s drivers use the former’s platform for greater profits. FCA Delivers 100 Uniquely Built Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid Minivans to Waymo for Self-driving Test Fleet

Waymo (formerly the Google self-driving car project) and FCA announced today that production of 100 Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid minivans uniquely built to enable fully self-driving operations has been completed. The vehicles are currently being outfitted with Waymo’s fully self-driving technology, including a purpose-built computer and a suite of sensors, telematics and other systems, and will join Waymo’s self-driving test fleet in early 2017. Waymo and FCA also revealed today the first images of the fully self-driving Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid vehicle. (more…)

BMW Details a Virtual Floating Touchscreen ‘HoloActive Touch’ with Tactile Feedback ahead of CES’17

In a push for connected mobility, German automaker BMW is looking to move past the usual touch interface in the car dash to introduce a new concept that uses gesture commands. Called the HoloActive Touch system, this innovative and revolutionary touch-sensitive display is installed in the vehicle to display info about music, navigation and more. This futuristic interior, part of BMW’s i Inside Future study, will be shown off at the CES (Consumer Electronics Show) 2017 in Las Vegas. (more…)
