CYNORA and Juhua Announce Cooperation on OLED TVs

CYNORA, a leader in highly efficient blue emitter materials for OLEDs, and Juhua, the Chinese open platform company aiming at the industrialization of printing OLED technology to produce OLED TVs, have signed a MoU (Memorandum of Understanding) to cooperate on OLED TV development. CYNORA is joining the technology platform with Juhua which is held by two China Panel Giants CSOT and Tianma. (more…)

Samsung unveils five ultra HD displays with AMD FreeSync

Samsung was the first company to voice its support for AMD FreeSync technology and announced in November 2014 to roll out FreeSync-enabled UE590 and UE850 monitors. However, when the FreeSync technology was officially released, Samsung was still working on its monitors while BenQ and Acer took the lead to introduce FreeSync-enabled displays. Now Samsung finally added UE590 and UE850 UHD 4k monitors to its lineup and offered size options of 23.6, 28 and 32 inches. (more…)

JDI to invest 30 billion yen for doubling its capacity of smartphone-size panels, leaving its Taiwanese rivals behind

Japan Display Inc. (JDI) on April 24 announced a shuffling at the top management level, with its current CEO and President Shuichi Otsuka resigning this June. Shuji Aruga, the current COO, will be promoted to president, and Mitsuru Homma will take over as both the CEO and chairman. JDI is the world’s second largest manufacturer of medium and small-size display panels. (more…)

Compal said to be interested in Toshiba’s Indonesia TV facility

Japanese TV brand Toshiba announced earlier this year to cease TV designing and production in its overseas facilities. In North America, Toshiba ceased TV R&D and sales business from March this year and licensed its TV business to Taiwanese contract laptop maker Compal Electronics Inc. Toshiba is recently rumored to further reduce the size of its TV business and is reportedly considering selling its Indonesia TV facility and a joint TV operation in Egypt. (more…)

Korea’s top two vendors forecast to take 40 percent of the global TV market in 2015

Sharp cuts jobs, may need 200 billion yen in aid

Japanese flat panel maker Sharp is in hot financial waters and its CEO Kozo Takahashi reportedly asked for 150 billion Japanese yen (US$1.24 billion) in turnaround fund from Mizuho Bank and Bank of Tokyo-Mitsubishi UFJ on March 5. Recent media reports suggested that Sharp is planning large-scale job cuts and may need over 200 billion yen in aid to keep it afloat. (more…)

Large-Size Panels Saw a 13.6% Decline in February’s Shipments While Notebook Panels Prospered, says TrendForce

The newest display panel shipment report from WitsView, a division of TrendForce, states that the February shipments of large-size panels totaled 56.71M units. This a 13% drop compared with the previous month and a 1.9% drop compared with the same period of the prior year. (more…)

TV Panels’ Shipment Demands Unaffected by Seasonality as January’s Shipments for Large-Size Panels Fell by 3%, TrendForce Reports

The newest panel shipment report from WitsView, a division of TrendForce, states that the total shipments for January amounted to 67.95 million units, a drop of 3% compared with the previous month. All six major panel makers experienced decline in their shipments. (more…)

LGD beats Innolux in 4K display market share in Q4 2014
