Microsoft works with Shenzhen manufacturers to enter African smartphone market

Microsoft aims to tap the burgeoning African smartphone market with its “Africa Initiatives” project. It will team up with Shenzhen-based manufacturers to launch handsets priced between $US 75 and $US 100 in Africa. “This can be considered a global launch,” said Fernando de Sousa, the project general manager. “Africa is a major consumer market where smartphone penetration is occurring faster than anywhere else in the world.” (more…)
