CompuCom Survey: Cloud Security is Top Priority for IT in 2017

According to a new survey from CompuCom Systems, Inc. (“CompuCom”), a leading technology infrastructure services company, nearly half of IT professionals surveyed (47 percent) believe that cloud security is the most important technology for their organization this year, over Internet of Things (IoT), data analytics, third-party software support and robotics process automation (RPA). Vulnerable ‘Security Backdoor’ Discovered in WhatsApp’s Encryption, Debunked as Being a Feature

Widely popular messaging app WhatsApp, owned by Facebook, has garnered immense praise for being one of the first to implement end-to-end encryption. On Friday, however, The Guardian has published a report to drag the company in the dirt due to the existence of a ‘security backdoor’ in its encryption mechanism. Trend Micro Helped Taiwan Police Stop A NTD$ 3 Million Loss From A BEC Scam

Trend Micro, the global information security software and solutions provider, detected a BEC scam hacking into a Taiwanese manufacturer’s transaction and successfully helped the Criminal Investigation Bureau stop an ongoing transnational fraud possibly causing a loss of USD$ 90 thousand (NTD$ 3 million). Internet Trust at All Time Low; Not Enough Being Done to Protect Data, Says Internet Society Report

The Internet Society has today released the findings from its 2016 Global Internet Report in which 59 percent of users admit they would likely not do business with a company which had suffered a data breach. Highlighting the extent of the data breach problem, the report makes key recommendations for building user trust in the online environment, stating that more needs to be done to protect online personal information. John McAfee Sues Chipmaker Intel Corp. over Trademark Infringement Threat

John McAfee, the creator of the oh-so-popular antivirus service is currently questioning the availability of his own name for christening future ventures. With regard to the same, he has now filed a lawsuit against chipmaker Intel, who’d bought the antivirus company for $7.8 billion in 2010. Spotify Users Report Hacked Accounts, Changed Emails, Credentials Appear On Pastebin

Spotify users have started reporting that their accounts have been hacked and that their credentials have been changed. Reports from victims started rolling in since last week, but Spotify hasn’t yet acknowledged it. Instead the digital music service says that it “has not been hacked” and its “user records are secure.” (more…)
