TSMC Expects Revenue to Grow 5-10% This Year

TSMC expects its revenue to grow 5-10% percent this year, ahead of the global semiconductor industry’s projected growth of 4 percent, company chairman Morris Chang said. The increasing use of ICs in smartphones and virtual reality devices will drive this growth, he explained. (more…)

One More Captain To Jump The Ship; Shang-Yi Chiang, Former TSMC COO, To Join SMIC As Independent Director

It was rumored on the 20th of December that Rick Tsai, the former CEO of TSMC and Chairman of Chunghwa Telecom, would join China’s Tsinghua Unigroup, which caused a sensation, yet later got denied by Tsai himself. Just a day after that, SMIC, one of China’s leading wafer OEMs, announced that it had recruited Shang-yi Chiang, the former COO of TSMC, to serve as Independent Non-executive Director. This is the second bombshell that has hit the industry this month.

Expectations are High for TSMC’s Advanced 10nm Process Development for 2017

TSMC, the leading semiconductor manufacturing company from Taiwan, will officially start its advanced 10nm process development in 2017 to increase its revenues. According a Japanese brokerage firm’s latest report, TSMC’s target price for next year will jump from US$ 204 to US$ 215. TSMC to Reach Full Capacity in 8” Fab in 2017 with Orders from FPC Fingerprint Sensor

Leading Taiwanese semiconductor foundry TSMC recently received huge orders from Swedish company Fingerprint Cards (FPC), a major client of SMIC. TSMC is currently at the stage of capacity verification and is projected to mass produce in the first quarter of 2017 once verified. TSMC Bullish in Latest Forecast

With strong sales of Apple’s iPhone 7 and high demand for handsets in China and other emerging markets, TSMC has revised up its forecast for full-year revenue growth.  For 2016, TSMC said its revenue would grow 11% to 12% in New Taiwan dollar terms from a year ago, up from the previous estimate of 5% to 10%.
